A Taste of Tuscany in Memphis

Last night I headed out for a fun girls’ night downtown and treated myself to dinner at Catherine & Mary’s — a Tuscan- and Sicilian-inspired gem located in downtown Memphis. The place is run by celebrated chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman, and it truly delivers. The restaurant has high ceilings, cozy lighting, and a blend of Italian tradition and Southern soul.

First Course — Parmesan Soufflé + Pinot Grigio, I kicked things off with the Parmesan Soufflé: a warm, cozy blend of carrots, parsnips, and a mushroom conserva. Paired with a glass of Scarpetta Pinot Grigio, it reminded me a bit of a chicken-pot-pie vibe, but lighter and with that soft biscuit-like texture on top. A comforting, interesting way to start the evening.

Main Course — For my main dish, I chose the Halibut. It came with a bed of spinach and kale, a creamy celery-root purée, and a marsala sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly — tender and flavorful — and while the marsala was a bit strong for me, the greens and the purée balanced it out nicely.

Dessert — The Best Tiramisu Ever Hands down! The tiramisu was the highlight of the meal. I don’t say this lightly — it was the best tiramisu I’ve ever had in my life. Every bite was rich, creamy, and indulgent. I’d go back to Catherine & Mary’s just for dessert.

If you’re ever in Memphis and craving something a little special, I’d totally recommend giving Catherine & Mary’s a try. And … I think I’ll be back sooner than later — maybe next time just for that tiramisu and another glass of that Pinot.
